#DontGiveAFinger

It is a creative initiative born during the COVID-19 pandemic. It showcases a transparent acrylic box equipped with an Arduino, a motion sensor, a solenoid, and a fake thumb from a magic kit. This art-meets-technology installation raises awareness about the importance of motion sensors in replacing touch-based traffic light buttons for public safety. Simulating the experience of touch without physical contact sparks conversations about modernizing public infrastructure for a safer future.

During the beginning of the pandemic, I realise how many traffic lights in London are still button-based ( if there’s actually any sensor-based ones )
So I decided to put together a small box that could replace the human touch using a sensor instead.
The project was made using an arduino pro mini board ( c++ ), a distance sensor and a solenoid.
